BESTFACT 1st international cluster workshop "Eco-efficient Solutions in Freight Transport Chains"

Phil Mortimer, and Maciej Tumasz of NewRail co-organised the

BESTFACT 1st international cluster workshop "Eco-efficient Solutions in Freight Transport Chains" (21st and 22nd of June 2012) hosted by ABN-AMRO HQ in Amsterdam, and the Port Authority of Amsterdam. And attended by 60 international delegates. High level speakers from quite different fields related to freight transport showed that a very good balance of transport, spatial planning, economy and environment will be needed as a contribution to the common goal "minimization of the number of freight movements and their distances" delivering benefits to the whole European society. NewRail managed the cluster sessions on green logistics and co-modality with Panteia-NEA and Tom Zunder of NewRail moderated the concluding round table. Presentations, minutes of the different workshops are here:

Please save the date for our next International Cluster workshop "Urban Freight in Europe: Achieving Benefits and Meeting Goals with Public and Private Initiatives", Brussels, 6th and 7th of December 2012.

"NewRail will have a stand at the INNOTRANS exhibition in Berlin from 18-21 September 2012. See the INNOTRANS website.

The focus of our stand at INNOTRANS 2012 will be the work of the Rail Freight and Logistics group: their research is into the development of a competitive, efficient, reliable and above all sustainable freight transport system. This can be achieved through intermodal and co-modal means in line with the aims of the EU White Paper 2011 (to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the transport sector by at least 60% by 2050 and to shift 30% of road freight over 300km to sustainable modes such as rail by 2030). See our schedule of presentations here."
